Patrick Wayne Swayze Wiki Biography

Patrick Wayne Swayze was born on 18 August 1952, in Houston, Texas USA, and was an actor, singer, dancer and also a songwriter, probably best known for appearing in such movies as “The Outsiders”, “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost” among many others. During his career as an actor, Patrick was nominated for and won several awards; some of them include Golden Globe, Saturn, BMI Film & TV, MTV Movie Awards among others. Patrick gained a huge following during his career, and was highly respected by others in the industry. What is more, Patrick was even named the “Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine.  Patrick passed away in 2009.

So how rich was Patrick Swayze? It is estimated by authoritative sources that Patrick’s net worth was over $45 million, the main source being  Patrick’s career as an actor, but his other talents of dancing, singing and songwriting also added to his wealth.

Patrick Swayze Net Worth $45 Million

There is perhaps no surprise that Patrick chose acting and dancing as his career, as his mother was a successful dancer and dance instructor. When Patrick attended school he became interested in extra curricula activities including martial arts, football – actually thinking of a career in the game – ballet, acting and even ice skating. He eventually concentrated on improving his dancing skills, as an injury put paid to football, and soon after matriculating he enrolled at the Harkness Ballet and Joffrey Ballet schools, then began his career as a professional dancer. His first appearance was while working together with “Disney on Parade”. Later he acted in the television M*A*S*H episode “Blood Brothers” in 1981, then received an invitation to act in the movie called “The Outsiders”. After this appearance, Patrick became more recognized in the movie industry, and of course it added to Patrick’s net worth. In 1987 Patrick acted in one of his most successful movies, called “Dirty Dancing”, together with Jennifer Grey, Jerry Orbach, Cynthia Rhodes and others. From a low budget, this movie became popular all over the world, garnering $220 million at the box office, and having a huge impact on the growth of Patrick Swayze’s net worth as well as his reputation.

Two years later he appeared in “Road House”, gaining more fans, and subsequent movies and television shows that Patrick appeared in include “Three Wishes”, “Donnie Darko”, “The Beast”, “George and the Dragon”, “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights”, and particularly “Ghost” in 1990, with Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore, and the following year in “Point Break” with Keanu Reeves, all of which maintained his popularity, and steadily increased his net worth.

A fall from a horse in the late ’90s caused serious injuries including breaking both legs, but Swayze eventually recovered to be able to dance again, including making his London West End theatre début in 2006, playing Nathan Detroit in the musical “Guys and Dolls” for a six-month run, actually 30 years after first appearing on Broadway in productions of “Goodtime Charley” in 1975 and then “Chicago”.

Swayze’s last performances  were in “Powder Blue” in 2008) playing an aging rock star and co-starring with his younger brother Don in their first film together, and finally Swayze starred in “The Beast”, a TV drama  filmed in Chicago, as FBI Agent Charles Barker.

To talk about Patrick’s personal life, he married Lisa Niemi in 1975 and lived with her until his death, although they were childless. Patrick’s private life was not easy, as his father died when he was young, and later his sister committed suicide, which certainly effected Patrick. Sadly, in 2008 Patrick was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and in September 2009 he died at his ranch in New Mexico. Up to his death he was a heavy smoker, which he admitted didn’t help recovery from his disease, although somewhat conversely even campaigning for donations to support cancer research.

#Quote
1[on shooting Dirty Dancing (1987) with co-star Jennifer Grey] She'd slip into silly moods, forcing us to do scenes over and over. We did have a few moments of friction...she seemed particularly emotional, sometimes bursting into tears if someone criticized her.
2Facing your own mortality is the quickest way possible to find out what you're made of. It strips away all the bull -- and exposes every part of you, your strength, your weaknesses, your sense of self, your soul. It also leads you to confront life's hardest questions.
3[on having terminal cancer] I've had more lifetimes than any 10 people put together, and it's been an amazing ride...So this (dying) is O.K.
4My big regret is the physical damage I've done to my body. I can do almost anything physically and I used to believe I was invincible, breaking bones over and over, playing football, doing gymnastics, diving, ballet, doing my own stunts, kickboxing, staging fights ... It all seems a little stupid to me now.
5Five years is pretty wishful thinking ... two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it. (January 2009)
6[on accepting a continuing role in the series The Beast (2009)] How do you nurture a positive attitude when all the statistics say you're a dead man? You go to work.
7I'm still fine to work, I haven't changed - oh, I have changed, what am I saying? It's a battle-zone I go through. Chemo, no matter how you cut it, is hell on wheels.
8[on having achieved some success with various anti-cancer treatments] I'm a miracle, dude.
9I have a great deal of faith in faith; if you believe something strongly enough, it becomes true for you. I would like to believe that my father is right here with me in this room and that he's my guardian angel, that there's life after death -- because if there isn't, why are we here? I don't believe that just flesh and bones can contain from the point of view of physics this very real recorded energy inside of us. Whether it's true or not, we need to believe it.
10[in 2004, about his drinking] I made a conscious decision to break away from big films when I got alcohol out of my life. I had been sucked into the blockbuster, box-office mentality and it was destroying my sense of purpose in life. The loneliness of fame was messing with my head. Once you've been famous for a while and told your story, it can sound like a lie. You don't know what's true. It sounds like an article someone wrote rather than the essence of who you are.
11I believe in a higher power. I've studied Eastern philosophies, and I've studied the Koran. We've devalued everything worth believing in. Now we're tearing into religion. A line should be drawn. The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) and The Da Vinci Code (2006) borders on that. I was glued to the book, but afterwards I thought, "Oh my Lord, now we're tearing into God and our faith". Are we going to be turning into a reality show, too? I certainly hope not.
12Good-looking people turn me off. Myself included.
